Do you ever get weary? Like the weight of life’s demands is too hard to bear? Have you ever just wanted to quit the endless tasks and responsibilities? I’ve felt it too–the longing for life to slow down, to be less stressful, less demanding. At times, I’ve wished I could step off the hamster wheel, exhausted from the race.
A quiet reminder
Then, something small yet significant caught my attention. I noticed tiny pink buds forming on the tips of my Christmas Cactus. They seemed to appear out of nowhere, growing visibly each day. I’m so excited to see them open and to have the plant in full bloom. It sparks a little bit of hope–a reminder of beauty quietly unfolding in the background of my busy world.
Today, I opened an old journal. Inside were messages I had written to myself in response to the questions, “Love, what would you have me know today.” The pages were filled with messages of comfort, encouragement, reassurance, and strength. As I read, I felt a warmth settle over me. Gentle truths surfaced: I am not alone. I am always loved. I will always be given what I need. These reminders softened my weariness, offering reassurance in a way my own hurried thoughts rarely do.
One journal entry stood out. It read
“My beloved, I delight in you. You make me smile. I see you and how you walk through this life, and I know you are mine. Rest in my love for you. Know that you don’t have to earn it. By being who I’ve created you to be, you fulfill your purpose. That is of utmost value.”
Hope for a weary heart
Reading those words was like a balm for my soul. A bit of the weariness faded, and I stood a little taller. Like my Christmas Cactus, which persists in its quiet, determined growth, I felt a spark of hope bloom within me
In that moment, I was reminded of a simple but profound truth: focus on love–it is the purpose for everything. Love is the one thing we are called to focus on, no matter how chaotic and heavy the world feels.
As the holidays approach, with their hustle and expectations, or as life continues its ceaseless demands, I hope this is a reminder to us all. Whether you’ve lost loved ones, taken on the role of caregiver, felt the sting of division over politics, or been weighed down by responsibilities, know this: you are not alone. You are seen. And you are loved.
